Why Solar?

Why Now?

Victor Hugo famously penned the phrase “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.”  Renewable energies’ time has come.  The world is changing more rapidly than ever before.  New technologies are disrupting entire sectors of the economy and those that don’t take on these challenges and adapt will be left behind.  In the last decade, the cost of solar energy development has dropped nearly 70 percent making it increasingly cheaper than conventional energy sources.  Resistance to adopting these new technologies, especially when they are now significantly cheaper than conventional sources of energy, will not only delay US adoption of these cutting-edge technical changes but also delay domestic manufacturing in the sector giving other global actors a significant lead over US manufacturers.  Delaying adoption will not only hurt the US economy in the short term by keeping the cost of energy higher than our global competitors but it will also hobble US manufacturing capabilities in the solar sector and our ability to compete on the global stage in the renewable energy manufacturing sector which is growing exponentially.  If we don’t start transitioning now, the US will be left behind and our dependence on foreign sources of energy will grow as well as our dependence on foreign manufacturing.
